portrait artist drawing a sketch

Hi, I'm Karen...

A North Yorkshire artist with a love of capturing moments through hand drawn portraits.

You could say I have a deep fascination with the humble pencil. Which I kind of do – there’s something about portrait drawing that makes me tick. So much so that I’ve decided to share this love for hand drawn portraits with you.

Well, that’s me in a nutshell. Not enough? Click the button below to find out more about my life as a Yorkshire artist and get up close and personal with just a few of my personalised drawings.

Ask Karen, the Yorkshire artist holding the pencil...

Okay, so I know it sounds backwards, but I’d say my biggest weakness is actually my creativity itself. You see, as much as it’s helps me as a portrait artist, it can also be a hinderance.

Many a time my creativity will cause me to overthink and have an idea overload. In other words, it used to cause me to overwork my portraits to the point that they lost some of their depth. Thankfully though, I’ve now learned to hone this creative urge.

Still, I suppose there’s worse weaknesses out there.

No model is the same, so no one picture is the same.

With one drawing, I might be accentuating the plump cheeks of a blushing 20 year old, whereas the next could have me working definition into a slightly more aged face. What’s more, with family portraits I get to cover all this variation in just one picture! Then factor in a couple of pet portraits and the variance increases yet again. Oh, and don’t forget about all the angles there are too.

At the end of the day, life as a portrait artist really is varied. And that’s exactly why I like it.

Now, as write this FAQ working with fellow Yorkshire artists isn’t something I’m doing at the moment. However, it is something I’m keen to do. Although I have managed to get on good terms with a couple of local photographers, as well as some social influencers too.

So, if you’re an artist who’s having a snoop around my site and likes what they see, reach out. I’m, always open for opportunities to collab.
